This week has been a busy short week. No school on Friday due to teacher in-service. The students worked hard on their math test and did very well. We will be starting division this week and will work hard on learning the steps of long division. I look forward to meeting all of you for Parent-Teacher Conferences that are coming up. Sign-ups will come home on Tuesday!

Another great week in class with great discussion on the book Hatchet. Make sure we are studying spelling words each week. The list is given out on Monday and a test on Friday.
We will take a open book reading test on Hatchet on Thursday of next week.
Next week is shaping up to be a normal week with no field trips or dismissals! I can't wait to see the amount of work we get accomplished.

This week we will finish Tuck Everlasting and have a open novel test on Thursday. The students will then choose from a list of projects to complete in class to display their knowledge of the book.
Math test on Thursday! Please use review pages 63-64 to study.
In science, we will move on to discussing animals and spend most of the remainder of the 1st quarter in that subject.
It's a short week but it will be busy!

In math, we are looking at having a quiz over the first 5 lessons on Friday.

I hope everyone has a great week!

How rewarding to see that the kids enjoy the classroom economy so much. We had our first payday today and the students caught on quicker than any group I have ever taught. They take this stuff serious and I love it! Our room is cleaned, the technology is in good working order, the room is arranged properly, and the library is better than I could have ever asked for. Parents be proud! I sure am.
We thank Lindsay Yates from News 10 for coming and doing a story on our class. It was a good way to spend our Thursday morning! Here is the story........look for us on the 5 o'clock news as well!

August 18th, 2015: Day 1 and your first assignment.....
It takes a lot to be a good person in today's society. Hard work, determination, integrity, initiative are often times forgotten. Sometimes it just pays to be nice to someone and not ask for anything in return. Do you know Dick Portillo? Do you know he started out with blue collar roots like us and with a little kindness from someone else and the initiative to pass that kindness on and work his tail off he became a BILLIONAIRE. http://www.dailyherald.com/article/20150705/news/150709526/
Let's discover these ideas of being a 21st century learner, a kind person, and a hard worker and see where it takes us this year.
Assignment:
1. Read or Watch the story of Dick Portillo in the Daily Herald.
2. Get a word from Mr. Stence.
3. Research it, learn it, know it, apply it.
4. Reflect on your word and blog about where it is in the world? How do you show it? Is it something we can work on?
5. Now the fun part.........Let's create a motivational poster to hang in the hall to catch everyone's attention.
-Use this site to create your poster: http://wigflip.com/automotivator/
6. Google an appropriate picture that goes with your word.
-Right click on picture
-Click on "save image as"
-Save image to the desktop so it is easy to find.
7. Now when you click on "browse" picture in Wigflip, you can find your picture on the desktop to use.
8.Finish creating your poster and click preview.
9. When you are finished click save and then don't move a muscle other than raising your hand and I will help you print it. (It gets a bit tricky from this point forward.
10. Hang in the hall to enjoy!
11. If you finish early, get up and help someone else who is struggling. Our work is never finished in this classroom. One finished job leads to another........... :)
